Sustainable Ladakh Initiative Foundation started with a simple realization — that Ladakh’s future depends on the actions we take today.
In the face of melting glaciers, seasonal isolation, and unsustainable development, we saw the need for a people-powered response. What began as local conversations has grown into a collective movement, working with communities to build a Ladakh that’s prepared, equitable, and rooted in both tradition and innovation.

Amita Baig is a heritage conservation expert with over 30 years’ experience across India and Asia. Former Executive Director of the World Monuments Fund, India, she has worked with UNESCO, led INTACH’s Architectural Heritage Division, and authored acclaimed books on Indian heritage.
